1. Debt-for-equity swap — offer equity in your company for debt forgiveness.
2. Partial debt forgiveness — you offer the supplier 40 cents on the dollar.
3. Installment Plan — negotiate an extended payoff of 12 to 24 months.
4. Installment / Debt Forgiveness Plan — offer terms on 50% of the debt.

Why would any creditor accept such a plan? Because you sent a very sincere and honest letter to creditors explaining your plan — and the alternatives if you file bankruptcy.

• They realize that they may get nothing if you file bankruptcy
• If they turn the debt over to a collection agency, they pay 30%.
• They can pay a lawyer 30% or more to collect.
• It’s costing them money to make calls and monitor your account.
• Most firms have already allocated reserves for write offs.
• They may have already written off your debt and will consider this a windfall.

You could hire a professional to negotiate for you. The fees are typically 15% to 20% of the revised debt negotiated. I can make a few recommendations to coaching clients if needed.
